23rd Dorking Cub Scouts
We
are a small group of Cub scouts which meet every Monday evening during
term time, in our village hall. Most of the cubs are from the village or
just outside.
The
spring term has brought in a few new Cubs as we had to part with our
older Cubs last autumn term. Spring term we had been making boats as our
challenge and we have also done our first aid badge.
We
visited our local church in Leigh and went up the Belfry to see the
bells and how they work. We ended by ringing the bells.
The
Cubs have done some bike maintence were they bring in there bikes learn
to change a puncher and oil and maintain there bikes. After half term we
will be cooking pancakes and having great fun tossing them.
We
were to have gone swimming but due to Dorking pool closing we went on a
Night hike instead. We then were thinking of Easter and making something
for Easter and mothers day with a church parade on mother’s day in
Leigh church. At the end of Spring term, we had a
chocolate night.
Come
summer term we were thinking and preparing for our annual camp. As soon
as summer term arrived we headed for camp.
This
year we went to Blacklands Farm to enjoy the activities there. We did
Zip wiring, indoor climbing, crate stacking, assault course activities
and archery. Our theme for this camp was Lord of the rings and the Cubs
took their bikes to camp which is a great place to take them too. Camp
fire is a highlight of camp as we all have a sing song and jokes night
each night with costumes on our theme as part of the entertainment, and
of course the hot chocolate with marshmallows and biscuits is a must.
District
Football at the end of May is always popular with the Cubs with as many
as 12 teams competing.
we
had a fundraising event at our local village show to help boost our
funds, which turned out to be a very wet day. We end our summer term at
Southwater Park on a kayaking night with family barbeque this is lovely
on a hot summer’s evening.
